Parent Engagement

We all know that the parent is the primary teacher and example for a child. At Peter Paul, we also know that all of our parents want what is best for their child; however, the neighborhood challenges often get in the way. To ensure the student’s success in the Peter Paul program and in their schools, we must be PFN Website Page Imagedeliberate in engaging parents. Students with involved parents are more likely to:

  • Earn higher grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs
  • Be promoted, pass their classes, and earn credits
  • Attend school regularly
  • Have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school

Promise Family Network

Peter Paul’s Director of Family Engagement, Adrienne Cole Johnson, launched the start of the Promise Family Network (PFN) in 2014 as part of RPN programming. Through the PFN, parents of current and perspective students of the Peter Paul Youth Program commit to the Promise Family Pledge, join a community of parents committed to the same pledge, and gain access to family events, programs, and services for the parents and children. Each parent will also create a Promise Family Plan, outlining their personal goals and how they will work to achieve them.

PFN Pledge Ceremony ImageThe PFN began with fourteen families in January of 2015 and has grown to more than thirty families as of June 2017. Our aim is to focus on a core network of families to grow as family and community advocates. Creating a ripple effect of leadership and community advocacy, the network is designed to grow annually. Our short-term goal is to have 80 families enrolled by 2017.
