When Kareen Edwards-Carter first noticed the Peter Paul after school program at Fairfield Court Elementary School (FCES)20150313_102455-2 where she is a teacher, she was impressed. “I was teaching another after school program, and I became intrigued by the activities being done by the students who were a part of the Peter Paul program. I noticed that every time I would pass by their classrooms they were always engaged and excited” Ms. Edwards-Carter said. Not long after Ms. Edwards-Carter had the opportunity to join the Peter Paul team as a teacher at our FCES program. “The PPDC program encourages creativity for not only the teachers but the students as well. The environment is so stress free, and my colleagues and I often share that no matter the kind of day we are having, being at PPDC in the afternoon is our stress relief,” Ms. Edwards-Carter expressed of her experience working with Peter Paul.

Kareen has been a teacher since 1994 and teaching at Fairfield Court since 2006. Originally from Jamaica, she came to Richmond as Visiting International Faculty. She has a Master’s degree and a Post Baccalaureate Certification in Autism from VCU. Additionally, she has served as the third grade level chair at FCES. We are happy to report that Ms. Edwards-Carter was recently accepted into VCU’s Educational Leadership Ed.D program and will begin next month. The Peter Paul family congratulates her on this exceptional achievement. We know that her efforts to expand her educational experience will not only benefit her personally but also her current and future students. We are lucky to have you, Ms. Edwards-Carter!
