Summer at Peter Paul is action packed with learning and fun! Students return after a two-week break and gear up for continued classroom leReading buddiesarning, field trips, camp experiences and much more. A favorite for both kids and volunteers is the “Reading Buddies program. Volunteers visit the Center and Fairfield Court to read with students one-on-one or to a group of students, combining mentoring with fostering a love of reading.

This year full enrollment in Summer Promise is expected and the program will expand to our Fairfield Court Elementary School satellite program. The Summer Promise kids will experience a combination of educational classroom time with enrichment activities, both on-site and out in the community. In July, Summer Promise 6th graders will attend VCU’s Discovery Camp, where they will enjoy a variety of in-depth hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, arts and health sciences. All Summer Promise students will participate in Community Service week by giving back to the Richmond community through a range of projects including our annual Anthem Lemonade stand where funds raised go to support local kids with cancer. The Center and Fairfield Court will also serve as a launch pad for many field trips, including bowling; craft day at Theater Community Arts Center; and a visit to the Science Museum.
