The Peter Paul Development Center is seeking qualified teachers for our After School Learning Immersion Program at Woodville Elementary in collaboration with the YMCA of Greater Richmond. This program is comprised of students in grades 2-5. Our students receive daily instruction in core subject areas as well as the opportunity to participate in enrichment activities. Weekly lesson plans must incorporate three components: project-based learning, learning through literature, and S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) curriculum. Qualified candidates will be expected to carry out the teaching duties required for Peter Paul Development Center as well as participate in experiences presented by YMCA staff. Candidates will also be expected to uphold the mission and value of both Peter Paul Development Center and the YMCA of Greater Richmond.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a classroom culture that encourages group thinking, curiosity and discovery
  • Collaborate with staff to design and implement integrated lessons with a strong S.T.E.A.M emphasis
  • Incorporate Peter Paul Education Plans (PPEPS) for each student
  • Communicate with students, parents, staff and student’s daytime classroom teacher
  • Implement PPDC’s daily expectations and behavior system
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Commitment to total classroom engagement
  • Other duties as necessary
Required Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Elementary Education (preferred)
  • Strong classroom management and organization
  • Experience working with students in a classroom setting
  • Experience writing and completing lesson plans
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of current educational research
  • Understanding of and familiarity working in an urban setting

Additional Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree and substantial teaching experience
  • Experience working with Common Core State Standards
  • Experience working with SOL pacing guide
Salary:
$20/hr
Benefits:
Teachers work Monday – Friday, 2:00pm – 6:00pm, and receive additional hours from team meetings & educational trainings. There are no other benefits associated with this part-time opportunity.
