Peter Paul’s 2018 Summer Promise begins full swing June 27 and runs through August 17. This year, an anticipated 304 children in grades 2 – 8 will participate. Summer Promise students will enjoy a variety of camps both on-site and around the metropolitan area Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m at our Peter Paul Central Campus and at our satellite location, Fairfield Court Elementary School.
Below is a listing of some of the volunteer and in-kind needs we have this summer:
Please be sure to reach out to Rosemary Jones at rjones@peterpauldevcenter.org before making any in-kind donations. Thank you!
Summer program is from June 27 through August 17.
- Garden Mentors: Help with our garden program and water on non-gardening days.
- Reading Buddies: Come read to or with our kids for no more than an hour between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
- Camp Program Assistants in the afternoons from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m.
- Camp Classroom Assistants in the mornings from 9:00 until 12:00 pm.
- Mentor: Any time of year is a good time to sign up as a mentor! To learn more, please reach out to Michael Bledsoe our volunteer & mentor coordinator at mbledsoe@peterpauldevcenter.org.
- Clare’s Camp Youth Counselors: This year we have three weeks of Clare’s Camp: July 9-13 (Fairfield Court Elementary); July 16-20 (Middle School Students); August 13-17 (Peter Paul Central Elementary Grade Students).
- Junior Iron Chef Volunteers: Peter Paul and the Neighborhood Resource Center of Greater Fulton will participate in a Junior Iron Chef competition. Classes leading up to the competition are Fridays from 1:00 to 3:00, between June 27 and August 17. The culminating event is slated for Saturday, August 25th from 11:00 – 2:00 p.m. If you like to cook (or just like food!) we would love to have your help leading up to and or during the competition!
- Snacks: We will need nutritious nonperishable snacks for our kids throughout the summer. If you can’t join us during our summer program, but would like to help, this is a great group project. Each afternoon, we will send our students home with a snack bag, included are such items as a box drink, whole wheat crackers, baked chips, mini-muffins, applesauce or fruit cup (no sugar added); nuts or seeds (pistachios, peanuts, sunflower seeds); fruit roll up, cookie or brownie.
- Food Distribution Workers: Distribution takes place the first and third Wednesday of each month. We need approximately 5 to 10 volunteers to help with registration, unloading food, sorting food and assisting clients with food selections. We begin registration at 8:00 a.m. and finish up by noon. This is a great volunteer opportunity for church or youth groups. Dates for summer distributions: June 20, July 18, and August 1 and 15.
