Our volunteers support our programs and widen the opportunities for those that we serve. Volunteers can be individuals or groups that contribute on a regular schedule or on a one-time or special project basis. No prior experience needed, just a willingness to help!

Mentors. H3 – Heart, Hand and Head Mentoring Program

For each of our students, an invested adult and consistent source of support can be an invaluable positive influence. Through caring support, active and engaged interaction, and a dedication to the growth and development of each mentee, our mentors seek to contribute heart, hand, and head to our students’ lives. Mentors and mentees commit to building these relationships through meeting at least once per week (every week) for a full year. Those that are interested in our mentoring program but who are unsure about a year-long commitment, we encourage you to explore our tutoring and classroom assistance volunteer opportunities. Background checks are part of the mentor application and orientation process.

All Promise Center locations
Monday – Thursday 4:00 pm – 6:15 pm
Commitment: at least one hour, once a week for a year

Thanksgiving Box Program

Fill a box with non-perishable items needed to make Thanksgiving a feast for a family. We also accept monetary and gift card donations for food purchasing and/or distribution.

Holiday Angel Program

Make Christmas special for a child or family. Support our Peter Paul students by donating to our Holiday Angel Fund and help provide holiday gift cards for our families and seniors. Click here to donate.

In-Kind Donations

In-kind needs to change from season to season. Please call us at 804-780-1195 with all in-kind inquiries or to receive a list of our current needs. Contact must be made before any donations can be delivered.

Special Projects

Looking to volunteer in a different way? Volunteer needs pop up all the time throughout the year. Tasks may include special events, decorating, painting, building, organizing, cleaning, and other general maintenance tasks that go a long way to keeping Peter Paul in tip-top shape! Feel free to connect with us if you have skills or services that you believe can be useful to our students or community members. Opportunities to Volunteer with our Community

Food Distribution Workers

Distribution takes place on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Volunteers help with registration, unloading food, sorting food, and assisting clients with food selections.  

Coleman Promise Center
1st and  3rd Wednesday of each month
8:30am – 11am 

 Distribution set–up and packing occurs the Tuesday before from 1:30pm – 3pm 

Children's Garden Volunteer

Assist with the upkeep of our Children’s Garden! 

Tasks may include weeding, trimming, watering, and harvesting. 

OPPORTUNITIES TO VOLUNTEER WITH OUR STUDENTS

Class Sponsor

“Adopt” a class and come monthly to host holiday parties, provide activities, or just visit with the students.

Monday – Friday 4pm – 5:30 pm

Once a month for a year

Tutor

Work 1 on 1 with a student on homework assignments and review SOL specific skills using current teaching models. This role is great for those familiar with current teaching methods formath and reading.

Days: Monday – Thursday

Time: 4pm – 5pm, 1 day a week for an hour

Reading Buddy

Volunteers will meet 1 on 1 with a student and engage in reading, literacy activities, and games. Homework time may be included if appropriate.

Days: Monday – Thursday

Time: 4pm -5pm, 1 day a week for an hour

Classroom Assistant

Volunteers will assist with classroom activities as directed by the teacher, including working on homework, S.T.E.A.M projects, and other small group activities.

Days: Monday – Friday

Time: 4pm – 6pm, Flexible days, 2-hour shifts.
