We are excited to welcome our students and families back to the Coleman Center this fall for another exciting year! As with most organizations, the past few years have forced us to think differently about how we deliver our purpose to Educate the Child, Engage the Family, and Empower the Community through a global pandemic. What we have learned from our students, families, and neighbors is that Peter Paul is a valued resource for our community and that there is more we can do. Peter Paul’s full complement of education, family engagement, and community empowerment models have proven to be impactful and would benefit similar communities throughout the region. For these reasons, Peter Paul will focus on the replication of our models within community-based settings while operating only at our Coleman Center this coming school year. The door to operation at school-based facilities remains open, but this year, we set our sights on the full implementation of our holistic approach to education in a focused capacity.

Peter Paul relies on both regular monitoring and formal testing to measure results that matter to the students and parents we serve. For the most basic information about participation, enrollment, attendance, and student retention, we rely on the data we record for each student in our database. Peter Paul is a firm believer in using formalized testing to measure and analyze the progress each child makes toward achieving academic and attitudinal goals. We currently use two nationally standardized assessments to measure our impact:

Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) developed by Northwest Evaluation Association: Using this assessment tool, we test students twice a year: once at the beginning of the school year to establish a baseline and growth projection; then at the close of the academic year to evaluate individual levels of growth. This test is designed to make sure that students are academically up to grade level national standards and on track to graduate from high school.

Survey of Academic and Youth Outcomes (SAYO) Assessment: This nationally recognized survey, which we use with our 4th through 8th grade students, provides a valid and reliable assessment of student perceptions of our program, as well as their academic competence and expectation of the future. This test is administered anonymously. Student results are tabulated to determine program growth for evaluation and reporting. Measures of success are available in our most recent Annual Report.
